This afternoon we had the privilege of touring the factory building where the hospital makes all of their traditional Thai medicine products. They make various shampoos, soaps, body oils, and oral capsules that patients can buy at the hospital. When we arrived we garbed sterile booties, lab coats, and hair nets (just like Dr. Klee taught us) and entered the factory. The pharmacist showed us the rooms in which they grind up the herbs and mix them with various liquids and syrups. We were able to observe one of the production lines of an herbal capsule being bottled. It was interesting to be able to see another way in which pharmacists play a role in manufacturing pharmaceutical products.
